The History of Top Gun Springers
The history behind Top Gun Springers is this:
We acquired our very first Springer because he was abused and had bitten a child that was kicking him and hitting him with a stick in his dog house while he was tied outside. He was a beautiful boy and was a great dog from day 1. We did a little research on the breed and decided a year later to get a female to breed him to. My goal was to find a female that would refine Willie's look a little and enhance his beauty and temperament. We found Missy from a woman nearby with a litter of 11. She was anxious to let them go so we got her at 6 weeks old, She fit in my pocket and I carried her everywhere. We took them both everywhere and they were wonderful dogs. They both became very good hunters and we used to volunteer our time at the Junior Pheasant Hunts in Sutter County every year. They had a blast and were such a joy to watch as a team.
From their first litter we kept our pick of the litter, Tonka, and my sister-in-law chose a pup Levi. They became the best dogs we ever had and we officially fell in love with the breed.

From that we then purchased a Black and White female because we had so many calls for them. That was Cookie. She was trouble from day one! (Kidding of course) She was the one who was doing her own thing while the rest of the litter was gathered around us. She was actually the best pup we had. She never chewed and was such a great girl.

From a breeding between a local (Anderson) Tri-color male and Cookie, we kept our beautiful Star. By then, Missy had retired and Willie had gone across the rainbow bridge.
Tonka had a tragic accident at age 12 and lost his life. Missy died at age 13 and Cookie was 12 when she passed away. Star was a very young 7 years old and died of a very fast developing tumor. We will be starting a health page soon as well to address health issues that Spingers can have and our experiences with them.
We kept Archie from a female we bred Tonka to in Yuba City. She was a great hunting dog and companion dog. We purchased Sophie and rescued Belle from the same breeder in Cottonwood. Belle sat at our feet while we picked Sophie out. When we asked if she was for sale the breeder made a call and then said yes. She had never been out of the yard before and boy was she frightened! But we got her home and has been the sweetest girl! She will never be over her shyness but she has come so far. A few years later, the same breeder asked us to take Pepper. We purchased Hannah from a breeder in Montana last year. And now the story continues....
We love the breed and hope to keep making our line the best we can.
